Gorilla Favorite Foods

Gorilla is a large animal who spend most of its time eating. They are usually found in the forests of Africa and keep humans and chimpanzees as their closest relatives. Most of the gorillas tend to live at higher altitudes. One can easily judge about its diet by looking at its healthy and wide body, which weight up to 200 kilograms for adult male gorillas and up to 100 kilograms for female gorillas. Typical diet of gorillas includes shoots, leaves and fruits. There are more than two hundred types of leaves that are edible for gorillas and gorillas consume these types of leaves frequently. Tubers also made up a great portion of the daily diet of the gorillas. Since gorillas are commonly found in dense forest areas, therefore, it is easy for them to find and consume tubers.

 

Different types of flowers are also eaten by the gorillas in addition with fungus and some insects as well. Since gorillas dwell in dense forest areas, leaves and fruits are easily accessible to them. But, if, in case they cannot find any sort of leave or fruit, they easily eat insects.

Favorite foods of Gorillas include bamboo, plant of which is harshly shaken by the strong gorilla. Gorillas also prefer wild celery and thistles. Consumption of these things makes them really happy.

 

One important fact about gorillas is that they don't drink water ordinarily. Instead, they make up the required water from the moisture of foliage. This is because foliage is consumed heavily by gorillas and they keep most of their day time eating. It is estimated that adult male gorilla consume 50 pounds of foliage in a single day.

 

They way gorillas eat or consume food is very similar to human beings. This is because gorillas are the closest relative of human beings and there is a lot of similarity observed among the human beings and the gorillas. In addition, they are also proved to be intelligent and behave much like human beings.
