About Gorilla

Gorilla is a large animal and belongs to primates. Though primates are found in every continent, the live on ground and are most commonly found in the forests of Africa . Gorillas are said to divide only into two species and most of them live in tropical and sub tropical forests. Gorillas can also be found at high altitudes such as Albertine Rift montane forests. They live at high altitudes of up to 14,000 ft. Gorillas are also among the closest relatives of human beings. It is also said that 99% of the DNA of Gorilla is similar to the DNA of human beings. Chimpanzee is also one of the closest relative of Gorilla and human beings. The species and sub species of Gorillas have been a topic of debate for a long time. But the agreed upon classification is two species of Gorillas with two sub-species of each.

 

Average height of an adult male gorilla is about 5 ft 7 inch and its average weight is about 175 kilogram. Average height of adult female is about 4 ft 6 inch and weighs approximately 100 kilograms. The color of the gorilla changes from the geographical region it belongs to. For example the mountain gorilla is the darkest of all other types of Gorillas. Western Gorilla is less dark than the eastern Gorilla. The finger prints of Gorillas are also unique like human and finger prints of one Gorilla does not match with the other.

 

Ordinary diet of Gorillas includes fruits, shoots and leaves. They may also found eating small insects. They are also found crushing heavy and large plants of bamboo. They spend most of their time eating. Mountain Gorillas use roots and herbs as their typical diet.

 

New born Gorillas live with their mother for about 3 years. Average life span of Gorillas is 30-50 years. Female Gorillas get mature at the age of 10-12 and male Gorillas get mature at the age of 12-13 years. Since they are closest to human beings in every nature, they're also very intelligent and are found performing very intellectual activities in the forests.
